Living by Faith

What does it mean to live by Faith?  We talk about it, but is there anyone who lives by Faith?

I'm going to venture a big YES to the question of does anyone actually live by faith anymore.  The Bible declares, (Heb 11:6) "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him."

When we come to God in Prayer for anything - do we believe that He rewards those who seek Him diligently?  When we humble ourselves in prayer, do we believe that God IS, and Was, and IS to come?
Do we believe that God exist?  Do we believe that the Bible is HIS living Word?

If our answers to the above questions is yes, then we have Faith to believe that ANYTHING we have need of will come to pass because He rewards those who diligently seek Him and believe that He exist to reward those who believe.

Come Before Winter

I was reminded tonight during Bible Study, of Paul and his last years-days in prison.  He knew his time was drawing near to go before Nero and he also knew it could be his last visit with anyone before meeting his Lord face to face.  2Ti 4:6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. "

He calls for Timothy his Protégé or (his son in the faith) to come to him - bring his coat and his writing and reading materials.  The urgency of the letter to Timothy is my subject tonight.  2Ti 4:9 "Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me: "
2Ti 4:13 "The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, bring when thou comest, and the books, especially the parchments."

Come before winter".  "Come to me shortly" he said in the beginning of the 4th chapter of II Timothy.

He was feeling the urgency of his young friend Timothy to get to him soon, and come before bad weather.  The coat  would have come in handy during winter and the scrolls where his cherished documents.

Do we ever have an urgency to do something in particular?  Do we follow through?  Or do we think we will have plenty of time tomorrow.

I pray Timothy did go to be with his "father" in the faith.  I do hope he carried with him the cloak and books Paul requested.  I also pray he got there before Winter, and one last time had a heart to heart with Paul as he once had before Paul's imprisonment.

Don't be one of those that procrastinates.  Someone may need you before their time of departure.

On Wings of Prayer

Today I have gone where the weary are calling,
Where hopeless, forsaken, they plead for a ray
To light their dark pathway, and keep them from falling;
Oh, I have been there and have touched them today.

Oh, I have gone down where the drumbeats are sounding
Their message monotonous, dreary and forlorn,
of base superstition, of evil abounding,
Yes, I have been there, and a hope has been born.

I saw little children, their eyes old with sorrow;
So old, with a wisdm learned in sin's school.
I saw them today, I will see them tomorrow -
I cannot forget, for the sight is so cruel.

Each day I will go where the weary are calling;
Each day I lighten their loads of despair
I cannot forget, for the need is appaling;
Each day I will go on the strong wings of prayer!

Slow me down Lord.

I found this today while searching the internet.  The writer is given credit at the end.  The prayer spoke to me, and there is no way I could pass it up for posting here on a prayer blog.

 “I am resting in your arms, Lord Jesus. You are my shield and protection. Only you know the outcome of my life. Please forgive me for the times when I have not been obedient to you. I know that you forgive me because you see my heart.

“May my heart and soul always find rest in you. Restore my body and soul as I continue doing the work you have planned for me. Though my body is sometimes weak, I can call on you anytime to refresh me. Everything around me is hectic, but with you, there is joy and peace.

“I thank you for the peace that comes only from knowing you. May others get to experience your peace in their lives.

“I am resting in you, O Lord, my savior and deliverer.”

The prayer is excerpted from "Shaped by Fait" by Theresa Rowe.

* * *
Slow me down, Lord. Ease the pounding of my heart by the quieting of my mind.... Teach me the art of taking minute vacations: of slowing down to look at seashells, to chat with a friend, to pet a dog.... Let me look up into the towering oaks and know they grew great and strong because they grew slowly and well

Standing in the Need of Prayer.

"It's me, Its me O Lord, standing in the need of prayer" is a song we sang years ago. However, these words came again to me as I opened up the blog. Anyone reading the words could easily say the same.

My heart has been ever so heavy as I watch the news coming off the TV. I watched this morning as the big machines dug the massive graves where many bodies will be entombed. Oh, the devastation in Haiti still hurts as I listen and visualize myself there.

"Except for the grace of God, there go I" is another line that has returned to me. There is no one better than another in God's sight, we all need Jesus. Some have heard of the Good news of the Gospel, where others have not, nonetheless, now is the time for those who have not heard of Jesus the Gentle Shepherd to be ministered to. In Haiti, their is help arriving around the clock, and soon it will be organized so that anyone needing a Doctor will have one. Anyone needing a drink of water will have plenty. And those who are hungry will be fed. I am touched by the outpouring of love and support coming from many areas of this world - each willing to help as much as possible, and hopefully stay for the long run.

Another earthquake hit Guatemala today as well. Too early to have heard anything about its devastation. And dear reader, even though we know the Bible tells us these things will happen before Jesus comes back, "wars and rumor of wars, earthquakes in different places..." it doesn't make the trauma of it all any easier to take in.

Thanks for continuing to pray for Haiti, and now Guatemala.

Haiti - Oh How we need to pray.

It goes without saying, that Haiti is in need of our prayers and support.  There are several missionaries who have lived there among the people, sharing their lives, sharing their culture, and most of all they share Christ.  I know their families would appreciate prayer.

If you want to help and not sure just how, here is an address for you to contact.  Much or little will be appreciated - if we all put our resources together - our little becomes a lot.  Pray for this to wake up those who don't know or have rejected Christ.  After all this is settled down somewhat, their ears will be ready to hear the Gospel, after they have been fed, warmed, and rested.  Thank you for praying.

Through Windows of Hope!

Today we will talk of HOPE. Not like a child closing his eyes, and making a wish at Christmas for a new bike to be under the tree. No, Hope that is alive and well and drawing a picture so as to set one's gaze on the prize.

Psa 39:7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.
Psa 71:5 For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth.
Psa 71:14 But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.
Psa 119:114 Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.
Psa 119:116 Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope.
Psa 130:5 I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.   (Read this again!)

Jer 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

Lam 3:26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
Act 2:26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
Rom 8:25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.  (Read that again)

Rom 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Col 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Reading the Word - brings HOPE.  After we've prayed then we picture ourselves being well.  We picture our lost loved ones coming to Christ.  We picture our needs being met.  In picturing it done, our Hope arises and keeps Faith alive.

Healing Scriptures

Pro 3:7 Never let yourself think that you are wiser than you are; simply obey the LORD and refuse to do wrong.
Pro 3:8 If you do, it will be like good medicine, healing your wounds and easing your pains.

Mal 4:2 But for you who obey me, my saving power will rise on you like the sun and bring healing like the sun's rays. You will be as free and happy as calves let out of a stall.

Mat 4:23 Jesus went all over Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, preaching the Good News about the Kingdom, and healing people who had all kinds of disease and sickness.

Luk 6:19 All the people tried to touch him, for power was going out from him and healing them all.

Act 10:38 You know about Jesus of Nazareth and how God poured out on him the Holy Spirit and power. He went everywhere, doing good and healing all who were under the power of the Devil, for God was with him.

Ki 13:6 King Jeroboam said to the prophet, "Please pray for me to the LORD your God, and ask him to heal my arm!" The prophet prayed to the LORD, and the king's arm was healed.
Psa 30:2 I cried to you for help, O LORD my God, and you healed me;
Our Healing has been Paid For: Isa 53:5 But because of our sins he was wounded, beaten because of the evil we did. We are healed by the punishment he suffered, made whole by the blows he received.

Isa 58:8 "Then my favor will shine on you like the morning sun, and your wounds will be quickly healed. I will always be with you to save you; my presence will protect you on every side.

Mat 4:24 The news about him spread through the whole country of Syria, so that people brought to him all those who were sick, suffering from all kinds of diseases and disorders: people with demons, and epileptics, and paralytics---and Jesus healed them all.

Mat 8:3 Jesus reached out and touched him. "I do want to," he answered. "Be clean!" At once the man was healed of his disease.

Mat 14:14 Jesus got out of the boat, and when he saw the large crowd, his heart was filled with pity for them, and he healed their sick.

Mat 15:28 So Jesus answered her, "You are a woman of great faith! What you want will be done for you." And at that very moment her daughter was healed.

Luk 4:40 After sunset all who had friends who were sick with various diseases brought them to Jesus; he placed his hands on every one of them and healed them all.

Mat 21:14 The blind and the crippled came to him in the Temple, and he healed them.

Mar 5:29 She touched his cloak, and her bleeding stopped at once; and she had the feeling inside herself that she was healed of her trouble.

Luk 4:40 After sunset all who had friends who were sick with various diseases brought them to Jesus; he placed his hands on every one of them and healed them all.

Today - read these scriptures - read them again - memorize them - make them a part of your thinking through meditation.
